Fresh Air for Forgotten Things

Fresh Air for Forgotten Things

THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT...

Washing and hanging textiles on the line. It's like someone breathing air into these old, forgotten things. They finally see the light and want to draw closer to you in the breeze, like they're reaching out to say, "Thank you for saving me."

Of all the mills, farms, factories, and places they've been, maybe this is the most peaceful of all. They were used, filled, made to work, strung up, thrown onto trucks, railroad cars, tractors, and conveyor belts. Now they're made to rest and bring comfort to your home.

Are textiles living, breathing things? Technically, no. But they were made to help people live. Whether it's a feed sack, flour sack, grain sack, or even a quilt, people lived with them, relied on them, and made them. They were part of everyday life, and now they'll become part of yours.

This is what I think about as they gently brush against me, blowing in the wind on the clothesline. Their original purpose is over, and a new one is just beginning. ☀️
